I suppose I should start off by sharing about my own future mommies, Mikayla (age 1yr 8months) and Natanya (age 3). Natanya is going to have at least 6 children, I'm convinced. She spends most of the day taking care of multiple baby dolls; nursing, wrapping, rocking, bathing, and even teaching them how to walk. None of which I had to teach her. Of course since March of this year, when I became a birth doula, her love for all things babies has only increased. She puts balls in her shirts and declares she's going to have herself, "a brother." When I left the house for a postpartum visit, I explained, "to help the new mommy with nursing." She responded with shock, "But mommy! You no have more milk in your boobies!" And the best play time conversation yet, "Mommy, me need a go to docker, me having a baby," my answer, "Well you can labor at home for a while hunny." She agrees, "Okay mommy, you be my doula."
Doesn't matter if It's a car ride, public park, or sitting on the couch, it's all a great place to breast feed for her.
And as for her side kick, Mikayla's attention span allows for about 15 seconds of swaying her doll and requesting I sing (since she doesn't know how yet).
I LOVE raising little girls. And I especially love raising little girls who are blessed to see birth as such a normal part of life!
